Black and White Plus Shades of Grey

A lot of subjects I see as quite graphic and like to process as monochrome, to use that definition, as they impact better to me. This view changes from scene to scene, obviously, I like to have blocks of colour as well. Processed in the main in Lightroom, which has an abundance of adjustments.

This is a random selection from my library, all I think quite good, but I cannot be objective enough with them to differentiate sometimes, so much harder with my own stuff. Different genres of course.

In Search of Colour on the Streets - London

Following on from my last post, this is a more photographic one, where I tried the Full Frontal Approach on my foraging for colourful people. Again using the Olympus cameras, with zoom lenses, but I now have a hankering for the 17mm 1.8 for these shots, need to prefocus or risk an out of focus shot, most likely, as people are moving towards the camera. Some are more colourful than others but I liked them all.Some more pleased than others, but I survived.

PARAFIN Gallery & Bird Street - London - A New Kind Of Street

Armed with my Olympus MK1 and M10 II with newly acquired 7-14 lens, went to visit an exhibition at PARAFIN gallery, called Transient Space.  
"Transient Space is a group show exploring different approaches to urban space in the work of six leading contemporary artists"
Enjoyed the exhibits immensely, good to see Newcastle again, with Melanie Manchot's video works, featuring Parkour runners. Captivating, and a well crafted space..

So as it is near Oxford Street, had a wander around that area, and found some interesting places, the alleys off Oxford Street are great to explore. Happened upon Bird Street, billed as the World's first "Smart Street", with pop-up cabins, one featuring food brand High Mood Food

"The initiative has also partnered with a number of tech visionaries to showcase the sustainability potential of future high streets such as Pavegen, the electricity generating paving, and the CleanAir Bench from Airlabs which allows visitors to sit and relax in a space of fresh, filtered air accompanied by real time air quality monitoring technology. In addition Airlite paint was used to finish the pop-up stalls which purifies the air of noxious gases and bacteria."

Liked the look of it, a new approach to the Urban Space, sort of a street park, almost.

A little colour and a lot of monochrome

Lightroom Collection editing for half an hour before evening meal (fish pie) and found these few to work on.
Street shots today, and I find mono is best for most, but sometimes the colour is part of the story, so decisions are made.

I try not to meddle too much with them, but as one develops skills it is hard not to tone down highlights, straighten and fill in shadow areas.

Spent most of the day in the garden tidying up for the winter, building a shelter as frost protection using a huge roll of bubble wrap, hope that it saves the gems. Took some pics which I will post another day.

Trying to break out from the mould and doing something different.........

I refer to photography of course, but I guess it applies to life too.

Been looking at my archive a lot recently and taking decisions on what I want in the future. We have to please ourselves with the images we take, but it is foolish to believe that we don't want others to like and approve as well, getting a positive response is an important human need.

So I have dragged a few images from the hard drive, where they live quietly, and this small selection is below, with some ideas that I am working on, putting them into a Theme envelope seems to make sense, and Lightroom key-wording these, plus other ratings should make help too.
