A London Day Out

Took a trip on the train Saturday, welcome relief from Exhibition work, and visited the new Kings Cross Square, the front of the station has been made into a good public space, granite benches etc

More Venice - Carnivale Characters

The Annual event in Venice,The Carnivale is a real treat, St Mark's Square being filled with milling crowds, earnest photographers, and probably now hundreds of cameraphones bearers, all trying to get a look and a photo. All the people with costumes pose constantly, and will stand to be photographed, I suspect a lot are models and actors, who now how to "work it"

So these represent a few of the shots I took, and as mentioned previously a bit of tidy up will be required on the best ones, if there are any. A change to posting colour, I seem to live in a black and white world with my photography, some things just look better monochrome.

Venice Recollected - A few images collected over visits

Many years ago, or so it seems now, one could get a flight to places for literally a penny plus usual taxes, and I used these to fly off to places for literally a day, getting up at 3am to get to Stansted and fly about 7am, and getting the evening flight back. It gave me a few hours to mooch around a city, taking photographs a-plenty, and thoroughly enjoying the brief glimpse I had of the destinations. The furthest journey was to Palermo, which was the best visit, other places included Seville, Paris & Oslo.

All those shots have yielded a few competition entries and photobooks, and I felt it was time to resurrect them, have a critical look, and see if they have any mileage for an exhibition I want to do next year. It is certainly true to say that my processing skills are better, with the help of various plug-ins, and obvoius flaws in previous work can probably be corrected, time willing. I have all the originals, with one or two notable exceptions, hard drive failure, no backup, so can get back and edit again.

The se ones sprung to mind, they were made as a panel for Cambridge Camera Club, not sure if they did anything, Venice is a popular place, and difficult to get original shots, and indeed it is a difficult city to "get", so much visual joy there, it is overwhelming.

The themes was obviously bridges, and I wanted to get a saturated look to the set.

Random Choices

I have so many files lurking on my drives and I flick through looking for that perfect shot, but to be haonest they don't exist for me, I feel like I take snapshots, good ones, but nothing meaningful in the widest sense of the word, to me photojournalism is that, showing life in the raw, with all the tragedy, and wonder that is out there. However, I seek perfection in the stuff I do, and it gives me pleasure, so I guess
 that will suffice.

.
Morecambe Bay Cloudscape, I could not resist it, and the boat made the grade too.

Performance photography, the most enriching subject to photograph for me.

Three lovely ladies at the Morecambe Vintage Festival, I literally stopped them and asked if I could take a shot, which I did. Strangely they never asked to see it, and where it would go.

Morecambe again, given an after-treatment from Color Efex Pro I liked. The Fells are in the distance across the Bay. Again a little boat stranded until full tide, which approaches very rapidly as it almost a flat foreshore.

An oldie sitting on the hard drive, just loved this perfect paintwork, with the brilliance of the Nice summer light.

I have just decided to go through my drives, to find duplicate or near duplicates, the resized files used once etc, so that is chundering through two external drives at the moment, as a start. Will see how that works then set up Lightroom 5, which seems to be the programme of choice, very good value too.
Another learning curve but may pay dividends with a more rapid workflow, to use the in vogue word.
